Advertisements

When looking at advertisements, there are many out there that make you think. In the assignment of watching commericals, I know have another prospective on them. I use to just flip the channel, now I am actually interested in what the whole commercial is about. So for this assignment I am still unsure what I want to do, but I'm pretty sure I want to do a shoe advertisement. I think that when looking through magazines and commericals there aren't that many interesting ones. That's why I want to do a shoe ad.

Research Papers

Research papers are very informative and can hold a lot of knowledge on one specific subject. Research papers include many quotations and facts that are said and in different resources. If a famous person said something that means a lot about the topic you pick, then you can include their opinion into the research paper. While doing the research there are many ways on conducting the information to support your paper. One main way of this is by gathering information out of the library. The library can hold numerous books and magazines that can be about your topic. Another way to gather information is by a web-based search. This gives you different websites to visit and can have almost any article you can think of. The last kind of research is field based research. This is where you can actually take information from a laboratory or from studies of living objects. This gives you actual numbers and real life proof. Along with getting information you need to make sure that your sources are reliable. Some questions you might want to ask yourself is if it is a scholarly journal or book and if it is even a popular source. Other questions form like who wrote the article, is the information recent, and is the information original. By asking these questions you can narrow down and see if the source is reliable or not. By doing all of these things you should have a good research paper with a lot of facts and information.

Civil Engagement

Cantor argues that one way to have cultural diversity is by admitting and recruiting different ethnicities and people. This allows the whole university to have a variety of students. Another way to get diversity is by creating a learning and living community where they will be engaged and informed. Another point Cantor says is to create opportunities and settings that can create true integration. Based on this information I do believe that we do need cultural diversity but not change everything the school is based on. The biggest task for the university would have to be finding the variety of students that pick their expectations.

Diversity at Western Michigan University

Most of the research students do now a day in on the internet; clicking different websites that all look different. Sometimes people only spend 5 seconds looking at the site and exit it right away.  When people are looking at specific topics they don’t want to spend hours looking for them on the website. Let’s say the topic diversity and multiculturalism; at the Western site right on the home page you can find the topics. One you enter the site and find a picture right in the middle of the page and it says play video. All the different videos are from different people who have different cultures and diversity and how they are going to bring it to Western. It can be as simple as the different degrees they are going to pursue. Diversity is all over this site all you have to do is click around and find what diversity means to you.

Peer Editing

Peer editing is a very good thing to do before every paper someone does. It makes you have more eyes on the paper and with more eyes that means there can be more corrections to make it better. People that don’t do a peer edit can sometimes miss little things that the writer can just skim over. Also peer editing is good because the reader could give the writer other suggestions that the writer would have never thought of. The only thing that I would change for the peer edits is having more than one person read the paper. I liked that we had to read it out loud to the reader but I also think the reader should read it.

Skate Boarding

Everywhere around we see people being able to do different skills that some people just can’t do.  Some people can play volleyball, speak Spanish, run a marathon, or drive a stick shift. Although some people may not be able to do something that doesn’t mean you can’t learn. From when we were little we have learned to do everything that we can do today. We find what we are good at and what we aren’t. One thing that I’ve never been good at is skate boarding. All my life I have been into sports and being able to do all out door things. Skating boarding is a different story. All of my friends and brothers have always been able to skate board but I thought it was the hardest thing in the world. I was not able to even stand on the board without almost falling flat on my face.  One reason it was so hard was because I’ve always been so scared of breaking my arm again. When I was a little kid I was hanging from the monkey bars and fell off and walked away with a broken arm. Ever since that day I was always nervous about falling again. Another reason I was never good at it was because I never had good balance. I was always the kid who was falling over little crack and not being able to dance very well. With all of these reasons, I just gave up on the whole aspect of riding a skate board.
